1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?
I got on through the MLB site in 2001 when they first got their MLB license. I always loved tabletop baseball games and baseball history so it was love at first byte. Right now HBD and HD are the only games I still play, but I used to love progressives in SLB. My favorite WIS memories are the original Beer League draft. This was the 1st progressive league on the site so it was kind of an ongoing experiment. Also meeting several owners from that league at a ballgame in Baltimore.
2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you crazy about sports or sports culture?
I'm a huge Phillies fan and have been since I saw my first game in person in 1969. Before that I was almost a Tigers fan because in '68 I first started paying attention to Baseball and rooted for the Tigers in the WS. My favorite memories were that first game. Phils won 1-0, and I can still see Tony Taylor stealing 2B and then flying around 3rd on Deron Johnson's single with 2 outs in the 8th.Also, the final regular season series of the 1980 season vs the Expos and the post season. Hard to beat a 5 game playoff that features 4 extra inning games. And the entire 1993 season.
Also a Colts fan because my dad bought me the Johnny Unitas story when I first started to like sports. He felt Unitas would be a good role model. Also like the Bucs because I lived in Tampa when the franchise first started. The Mike Curtis INT and Jim O'Brien's game winning FG rank as my favorite football moments. Imagine the star O'Brien would be today. A Rookie Kicker wins the Super bowl as time runs out and most fans never heard of him :)
Favorite Players: John Kruk, Dick Allen, Jim Bunning, Johnny U, Marvin Harrison, Chase Utley, Peyton Manning, and Regie Wayne.
3/Music. What are the last three things you listened to? All-time three favorite artists? Best show you've seen?
I asked my daughter how I was going to answer this and she just laughed. My Music tastes are varied. At any given time you can find me listening to Frank Sinatra, Big Band, Elvis (both Presley and Costello) The Talking Heads, Alice Cooper, Velvet Revolver, The Monkeys, The Foo Fighters, Walk the Moon, The Outlaws, Finger Eleven, The Doors, Dylan. Just about anything. Not crazy about rap or classical. I will say this I'm not the guy who bitches there is no good music anymore and pulls the "in my day" crap. We had lots of good and bad music in every era.
4/Aside from sports and music, what are your favorite hobbies, films, books, etc? What might surprise us about your interests?
I love to cook. I went to culinary school when I was younger and worked in restaurants for a while before I realized I loved the work, but not the job. I also like growing vegetables and have a fairly large garden. I write poetry and some of it is even fairly good. I love fantasy books like the Elric Series and the Amber series. Right now I am re-reading Katherine Kurtz's Deryni series. In movies To Kill a Mockingbird, 1776, and the Birdcage are movies I can watch over and over. I am really enjoying all the superhero movies that are coming out right now. I also love the TV shows Gotham and Arrow. Yes I'm a nerd. I would still GM Dungeons and Dragons if I had players.
5/Survival. Where are you from originally, and where are you living now? How do you pay your bills, assuming you do?
I grew up in North East Pa in the Wilkes-Barre Scranton area which some of you may know from the show The Office. Right now I live in Clifton Springs, NY, which is located in the Finger Lakes region. In between I have lived in Tampa, FL, Austin, TX, and Lancaster, PA.
I work for an eyeglass lens company known as Shamir and I travel the country doing educational seminars for Opticians and Eye Doctors, as well as doing installations and troubleshooting of our technology. When I am not on the road I work from home answering questions from Opticians, Eye Doctors, and consumers.
