5 Minutes with crickett13

crickett13 manages the Pawtucket Bobcats in the AL North. He is one of the Original Eight in Capra--and has been here since the beginning. His team won the World Series in season 9.  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            I got on through the MLB site in 2001 when they first got their MLB license. I always loved tabletop baseball games and baseball history so it was love at first byte. Right now HBD and HD are the only games I still play, but I used to love progressives in SLB. My favorite WIS memories are the original Beer League draft. This was the 1st progressive league on the site so it was kind of an ongoing experiment. Also meeting several owners from that league at a ballgame in Baltimore. 2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you crazy about sp...

5 Minutes with evil_twin

evil_twin manages the Montreal Saracens in the AL North. He is on his fourth stint and team with Capra (surely a record for a returning owner!). evil_twin was also an original Capra owner when he founded the San Juan Rumrunners (currently the Nashville Sounds in the NL South).  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            On July 27th 2002, I clicked on an ad on mlb.com looking for something different than typical fantasy sports or games and have been hooked ever since.           My favorite moment on the site would be my first progressive league championship, the 70/71 original Beer League, with a team highlighted by the postseason rotation of Catfish Hunter, Claude Osteen and Don Gullett. 2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you c...

5 Minutes with flbarons

flbarons runs the Scranton Lackawanna in the NL East and has done so since season 34. 1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            I had to look this up – I’ve been on the site since 2004. I found an ad on some sports site and thought I’d give it a try – I started with SIM Baseball and SIM Hockey but quickly decided to just stick with SIM Baseball. I’ve been on HBD for about 3 or 4 years I think – I started in Let’s Play Two with billpitt cause they were recruiting – I must admit I’m not very good at HBD (that won’t surprise anyone LOL) – it takes a lot of time and I travel a ton with my job so I can’t put in as much time as I like but I have been getting some mentoring from guys like mccarthyizm and jeclapton123, which has really helped. I don’t really have a favorite moment on HBD as yet just trying to figure out this game. 2...

5 Minutes with Buzz Capra and/or Crumbly Jones

This response came from an email display name of Buzz Capra and an email address of crumblyjones.  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?           First of all, this site is small potatoes, okay? I am bigger than this site, okay? I am worth billions, I could totally buy this site and shut it down, okay? 2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you crazy about sports or sports culture?            I don't have favorite teams, teams have favorite people, like me, okay? I could buy any team I want, if I wanted to-what drives me crazy about sports are people who think small-I think greatness, and do great things-I make things great 3/Music. What are the last three things you listened to? All-time three favorite artists? Best sh...

5 Minutes with ???, Or, Is This Where I Turn In My Animal Farm Book Report?

These responses came from an email with the address of bertandernieluvpbj@gmail.com. The email address had a display name of Buzz Capra. No reply when I asked for an HBD username. 1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            My book report is on  Animal Farm , by George Orwell, is a Signet Classic in which animals take over the farm. In the book, animals are used to represent communists and people represent Democrats. I would say that using animals to represent communists was a pretty good idea, because, historically, communists tried to do a lot of animalistic things, like aim nuclear bombs at America, and that is like something an animal on a farm might do. 2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you crazy about sports or sports culture?...

5 Minutes with jlrubbyj57

I received this reply from the following email address: smshanemcgowan@gmail.com, which had the display name of Shane McGowan (any Pogues fans out there?). When I asked for a Capra username, the emailer replied that his Capra name is jlrubbyj57. 1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?           Barry Bonds and Bud Selig are in a conspiracy together to boost television ratings. Mr. Selig on 2 occasions (Dec.10, 2001 and Feb. 6th, 2003) met Mr. Bonds at the I-70 Steak and Shake, booth #11, made an under the table cream exchange, needles, HGH, as Mr. Bonds provided Mr. Selig 22 thousand for his services. I planted a bug in booth #10, Robert Novak and Judith Miller have copies of the transcripts.   2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you crazy about sports or spor...

5 Minutes with alexkluge

alexkluge manages the Washington D.C. Expos in the AL East. The Expos won the World Series in Season 38, their 13th in Capra.  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            I have been playing Hardball Dynasty for almost 6 years now. I ended up here because of a friend of mine and former Capra owner “mdymond” introduced me to the game. I have only played Hardball Dynasty and have been hooked ever since. Favorite HBD moment was game 6 of the Season 39 World Series when the Expos defeated the Sabres to capture our first World Series title. My second favourite moment was the Season 39 ALDS when the Expos rallied to defeat the Bulldogs after being down 2 games to none to win three straight. 2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you crazy about sports or sports c...

5 Minutes with moethedog

moethedog has been running the Syracuse Sicilians in the NL East since Capra's 15th season. During this run the Sicilians have won a World Series (26) and battled in the Series five more times. 1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?             I first came to HBD (and Capra) in Year 15. I had played several seasons, with mixed results, in SimLeague Baseball. I was lucky enough to win a Tournament of Champion in the theme leagues and used that chunk of credit to take the HBD dive. I loved it from Day 1. HBD is the ONLY game I play. I’ve resisted others simply because I have enough of a jones for this one. I was lucky enough to win a Capra World Series a while back. I was also lucky enough to lose 5 WS in 8 seasons, just recently. I have to admit to loving all of it. 2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Fav...

5 Minutes with jeclapton123

jeclapton123 manages the San Juan Scorpions in the NL East. He is in his second stint in Capra. 1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            I joined HBD because of my best friend, chazzzzzz, who many of you know from the early days of Capra. I was a member of Capra from season 5 through season 14. I took a break from HBD for a while when daily fantasy was first taking off, but I really enjoy HBD and I got the urge one day to check back with Capra and see how things were doing in the league. Much to my surprise, not only was there a slot available in Capra, but it was actually my original franchise that I had acquired back when I first joined!           My favorite game on WIS is definitely HBD. I've tried some of the sim leagues, but they don't compare to HBD for me. I spend most of my time on WIS betwee...

5 Minutes with dcbove

dcbove mans the Cleveland Spiders in the AL East. He has been doing so since season 7 and in this team the Spiders have appeared in the World Series 8 times and won 4 of them.  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            My very first experience on WIS is Season 7 of Capra. I had found the site looking for stats for college football bowl game previews and had followed a link to one of WIS's "Bowl Projection" articles. HBD is the only game I've played (with the exception of one free season of GD).           My favorite experience or accomplishment? Rick Christensen's career Capra lead in pitching wins and winning percentage, if only because of the seasons of sustained success that it required. I'm afraid that Rick won't be all that gracious when Junior Hernandez breaks his record.  Rick thinks ...

5 Minutes with anthonybenet

anthonybenet is entering his 10th season in Capra. His Los Angeles Vandals play in the AL West.  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?           I have been on the site regularly since Season 30 of Capra baseball. I first heard about it when I was in high school and starting playing a couple sim leagues on WIS in 2007. I had a short stint with HBD a handful of years later and now I've found my home here in Capra. Favorite moment with the Vandals so far has been in Game 5 of the Wild Card round of Season 37 against the Peaches. Sammy Beckett's pinch hit home run in the bottom of the 9th sent the game to extras where the Vandals eventually prevailed by an Alexei Bonilla RBI.   2/Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you crazy about sports or sports culture? ...

5 Minutes with erik0097

erik0097 has been running the Toronto Beavers in the NL North since Capra's first season. He is one of the Original Eight.  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?             I was part of the wave that came aboard after Simmons mentioned it and one of my co-workers confirmed that yes it would be something I would like. Started with sim baseball, got involved in Hoops Replay, and joined Capra from there. Capra is the only game I am actively playing.           My epic comeback in game 7 of the Capra S04 World Series is of course a great memory. Another one was winning game 6 of the Hoops Replay 1984 Finals -- the feeling of my underdog team pulling one out on the road and sticking around for game 7 made for an exilarating morning/lunchtime. Missing 11 straight shots from the  field d in game 7 was d...

5 Minutes with srunstro

srunstro is in his first season with Capra. His San Diego Aztecs compete in the AL West.  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            I first joined WIS on January 31, 2005 with the username HalfAstros. I discovered the site while browsing for hot-stove league information on MLB.com, during the short period where WIS was affiliated with MLB. I was in my early 30s at that time and “HalfAstros” was the name of my beer-league softball team. When I joined, I thought I was naming a team, not my user id, so I was a little surprised when the name hung around. My first couple years on the site, I played mostly SimLeague Baseball. I played several hundred “spring training” league seasons, and 20 full seasons, winning 2 world series. I also played around with most of the other SimLeague games, but not seriously.    ...

5 Minutes with mnnorthstars

mnnorthstars is one of Capra's original eight owners. His Minnesota North Stars team is in the NL North.  1/What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?            I signed up in November 2001 when I saw a promotional that the MLB site (I think that was back when mlb.com was still being used by a law firm, remember those days?) ran about the '27 Yankees taking on the '75 Reds and it had a little blurb about the website they used as the engine to run the simulation. That sounded like something really up my alley and I thought that I would give it a try. So I have tried SimLeague baseball and hockey and have done at least a free trial of all the Dynasty games except for racing. My favorite SimLeagues to be in are the ones that have an emphasis on pitching and defense, and the dynasty leagues like the progressive/regressive or the Talent Pool D...

5 Minute with vikesxv

v ikesxv has managed the Kansas City Exodusters in the NL West since Capra's second season. 1/ What If Sports. How long have you been on the site, and how did you end up here? What is your favorite game here? Favorite team or experience on the site?  My son, mnnorthstars, invited me to play SimLeague Baseball years ago. I had one team win over 110 games. We played that for awhile and moved to Dynasty because this is more challenging. 2/ Sports. What are your favorite teams in the real world? Favorite players and/or sports memories? What drives you crazy about sports or sports culture? I am from St. Louis and grew up in Minnesota. My favorite teams are the Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Cardinals and Blues hockey. Players Rod Carew & Alan Page, Gump Worsley from the past. I met Lou Brock 19 years ago. I very much respect Tony Dungy and Walter Payton. The best sports events are March Madness and Wild Card weekend NFL.   3/ Music. What are the last three things yo...
